MAHE TRAINS STAFF AS PART OF "NASHA MUKT UDUPI ABHIYAAN

The Department of Student Affairs, MAHE conducted a Training of Trainers program for selected staff from various institutions of MAHE, as a part of the project titled “Nasha Mukt Udupi Abhiyaan by involving Young Leaders of MAHE” which is a part of the nationwide Government campaign “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan”. The Training session addressed the issues related to substance abuse among youth.

On this occasion, Dr. Narayana Sabhahit, Registrar of MAHE, released the first edition of Newsletter “Nash Mukt Udupi Abhiyaan”, which gives the overview of various activities conducted as a part of the project.

In his presidential address, Dr.Sabhahit appreciated the efforts of the Department of Student Affairs for taking the initiative of training the selected staff of MAHE and affirmed the commitment of MAHE towards curbing the menace of substance abuse.

Guest of Honor, Cdr. (Dr.) Anil Rana, Director of MIT, thanked the Department of Student Affairs for their excellent efforts and advised the attendees that their duty extended beyond the session today to protect the future of youth.

The training program had four sessions by renowned resource persons.
Dr. P.V. Bhandary, Director & Consultant Psychiatrist of Dr. A.V. Baliga Group of Institutions, Udupi conducted the first session on the “Role of staff in prevention of substance abuse among youth and also drug refusal techniques”. In the second session, Dr. Rameela Shekhar, Mental Health Professional, Manashanthi, Mangalore spoke on the topic “Life Skills for a Positive Well Being”.

Dr. Vinod C. Nayak, Professor, Dept. of Forensic Medicine &
Coordinator, Centre for Clinical and Innovative Forensics Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, conducted the session on “Legal and ethical aspects of Substance Abuse”.

Dr. Geetha Maiya , Director of Student Affairs, MAHE and Principal Investigator of the project gave an overview and action plan of a year-long project “Nasha Mukt Udupi Abhiyaan involving young leaders of MAHE” .

This event has invigorated MAHE to continue their efforts to build a conducive atmosphere for students in and around Udupi District. In addition to this, MAHE is planning to conduct programs and competitions to spread awareness amongst schools, colleges and 10 identified villages of Udupi community.
