2nd International conference of Global Cancer Consortium at Manipal

Manipal, 7th January 2023: The second international conference of Global Cancer Consortium was conducted jointly by Kasturba Medical College Manipal, Global cancer consortium and Manipal Comprehensive Cancer Care Centre on 7th and 8th January 2023 at Fortune Inn Valley View, Manipal.

 

More than 200 delegates and faculty members participated in this conference, who were mainly from various oncology disciplines across India. The international faculty are from Markey Cancer Centre, Mayo Clinic, Lahey Hospital & Medical Centre, and University of Alabama were participated as resource persons.

The theme of the conference is ‘Futuristic Oncology- Precision medicine in breast, liver, and lung cancer’. The conference focussed on treatment advancements in breast, lung and liver cancer.

 

The conference was inaugurated by Dr Sushma Bhatnagar, Director, National Cancer Institute, Government of India and Director, Institute of Rotary Cancer Hospital, All India Institute of Medical Sciences New Delhi.

 

Dr Vivek Rangnekar, Professor, Associate Director of Transdisciplinary Collaboration, Markey Cancer Center, University of Kentucky, USA and Dr Sharath K Rao, Pro Vice Chancellor, Health sciences, MAHE, Manipal were Guests of Honor for the program. Dr H.S. Ballal, Pro Chancellor, MAHE, Manipal presided over the program.

 

Dr Padmaraj Hegde, Dean, KMC Manipal welcomed the gathering and Dr Avinash Shetty, Medical Superintendent, Kasturba Hospital, Manipal proposed vote of thanks.

 

In Inaugural address Dr Sushma Bhatnagar appreciated the KMC Manipal and MAHE group for wonder full education system and said “Manipal creating brightest people in Manipal by state of the art education system and they become bright and brightest when goes out from Manipal.

 

This conference concentrated on Futuristic Oncology- Precision medicine is that we have to see all patients in different way according to their conditions and symptoms, then only we can possible to treat and give precision treatment”.

 

On this occasion Dr Vivek Rangnekar gave overview on Global Cancer Consortium and its activities and importance of organising international conference of Global Cancer Consortium.

 

Dr Sharath K Rao said, “ each cancer patient will be have different treat ment that is what called precision cancer treatment. Involvement of pharmacogenetics, medical genetics important because gens has to be identified, produce the growth have to be identified to give best treatment. Manipal has all these facilities for all this and our aim is to provide precision medicine”.

 

In Presidential address Dr H S Ballal said, “ we have all verticals of Cancer treatment in single roof in Manipal comprehensive Care cancer centre, like medical oncology, surgical oncology, radiotherapy and oncology, paediatric haematology oncology, palliative care medicine and nuclear medicine.

 

We are in process of building new hospice centre care, so that everything will be available in one roof. Every year we are organising Manipal marathon in different theme. This year theme is paediatric oncology to give awareness on childhood cancer”.

 

Dr Karthik Udupa – Head, Medical oncology, Kasturba Hospital, Manipal and Conference Chairperson gave overview on this conference. Dr Ananth Pai- organising secretary; and Dr Shirley Lewis -scientific chairperson were present during the inaugural function.
