MAHE Organizes an Unique Workshop on A basic anatomical and clinical workshop for karate instructors

Manipal, 13 th September- Division of Anatomy, DBMS (Department of Basic Medical
Science) MAHE, Manipal faculty in association with MAHE- IASK- Do, Manipal Dojo
organised Human musculoskeletal system and vital organ functions, A basic anatomical and
clinical workshop for karate instructors a first of its kind initiative of MAHE -DBMS for the
Karate and Martial art instructors to familiarise them with Human musculoskeletal system
and vital organ functions, so that they can understand the methods of prevention of injuries
to vital organs during training youngsters in Marital Arts .
Inaugurating the one-day workshop, Dr. Arun G Maiya, Dean of Manipal College of
Health professionals, MAHE, Manipal who was the Chief Guest addressed the gathering of
faculty and instructors, he expressed his happiness in inaugurating the workshop and said
that this is the first of its kind workshop and congratulated the organisers for such a
workshop that is very useful for this profession. He briefly stressed on the need of creating
awareness on human anatomy for trainers for such high risk sport activity such as Karate
and Martial Arts, this kind of workshops will ensure prevention of major and fatal injuries
during training period.He expressed that as a social commitment the DBMS has taken this
unique initiative for the society as a commitment of MAHE’s Social Responsibility.
Welcoming the gathering the In-charge coordinator of Anatomy division of DBMS,
MAHE Dr. Bincy M George briefed the participants about the idea and Workshop, Dr Ullas
Kamath – Dean, MMMC, Manipal Campus and Shihan Nishanth B Bhat (Chief Instructor-
MAHE-IASK-Do Manipal Dojo, Technical representative of Indian Academy of Shito-Ryu
Karate-Do(IASK-DO)for Karnataka ) were present in the inaugural function.
The faculty of DBMS- Division of Anatomy, MAHE conducted various sessions in the
workshop with live demonstration of vital Organs from the Cadaver in the anatomy
Dissection Hall, in MMMC, Manipal campus. The Workshop was held for one day in which
participants were made aware on various organs and their functions to ensure that trainers
take care of the youngsters to prevent major injuries to vital organs during their course of
training and take preventive guards during competitions by trained Physiotherapists.
The workshop culminated with the Valedictory function at the end of the one day workshop
where Dr. Shyamsundar Bhat, Professor and Head of department of Orthopaedics was the
chief guest, he was overwhelmed with this kind of initiative for the First time organised by
